Lobster
Clearwater owns and operates one offshore lobster harvesting vessel. Joining Clearwater’s fleet in 2009, the Randell Dominaux is named after a beloved and long-time longline and lobster captain. The addition of the modern and efficient Randell Dominaux consolidated Clearwater’s offshore lobster fishing fleet from five vessels to one. Better use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), bottom mapping and historic data analysis facilitated the reduction of the number of vessels required to harvest the quota, while also providing a safer platform for the crew and reducing Clearwater’s carbon footprint.
The Eastern Canadian offshore lobster fishery is located in Lobster Fishing Area (LFA) 41, off the coast of South West Nova Scotia. Clearwater currently operates in this fishery, specifically around the edges of George’s Bank and the Eastern Scotian Shelf, to the west of Halifax.
