Clearwater Whelks are wild harvested from the inshore waters surrounding the United Kingdom, with the majority being caught in Wales and Southern England. Although this fishery operates year-round, the primary harvesting season for whelks runs between March and June. Clearwater purchases whelk directly from trusted fishermen, who operate small day boats. Product is caught in baited
pots and returned to the shore within eight hours.

Once landed, whelks are unloaded and packed on refrigerated trucks for delivery to Clearwater’s processing facility in Scotland. Product arrives in a live format for processing, where the whelk meat is thermally shocked, shucked from the shell, quality inspected and size graded.

Thermally shocked meat sold frozen in bulk format or 2.2lb bags.
