Director, co-founded Clearwater in 1976. John was Chief Executive Officer of Clearwater and continues to take an active day-to-day role in the business. He serves on a number of industry and community organizations, including as a board member of FPI Limited, as a member of the Board of Governors of Dalhousie University and as Chairman of the Canadian Youth Business Foundation. John was named as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1999.
Chairman, co-founded Clearwater in 1976 and has been serving in various capacities within Clearwater since that time. Colin has had an extensive career within the seafood industry, having served in various organizations, including acting as President, Canadian Lobster Producers Associations and as a Founding Member, Lobster Science Centre. Colin has also been active in community related associations and is currently Chair of the IWK Health Centre Foundation. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree and an honourary Bachelor of Laws degree from both Dalhousie University and UPEI.
Mickey MacDonald is an entrepreneur whose business interests are diversified across many industries including automotive leasing, retail, food and beverage, fitness, commercial and residential custom tile sales and residential land development. He has an Honorary Doctor of Commerce from Saint Mary's University and has won numerous business and personal awards including the 2008 Nova Scotia Humanitarian of the Year, 2005 Nova Scotia Philanthropist of the Year, 2004 Newfoundland Philanthropist of the Year, Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Halifax Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year and has been named as one the Top 50 CEO’s in Atlantic Canada for five years in a row.
Brendan Paddick is the Chief Executive Officer of Columbus Communications Inc, an international business corporation that owns and operates broadband telecommunication service providers throughout the Caribbean and Central America. Mr. Paddick has extensive capital market experience and was named as one of Canada’s Top 40 under 40 in 2000. He has also been named one of Atlantic Canada’s top 50 CEO’s by Atlantic Business magazine on three occasions. He has a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Business Administration from Memorial University of Newfoundland and graduated from the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. He is a director of numerous private and public companies including Columbus Communications Inc. and Cable Bahamas Limited.
Stan Spavold joined Clearwater Fine Foods Incorporated (CFFI) as Executive Vice-President in November of 2002. Working alongside the President of CFFI, Stan provides a broad oversight role at Clearwater serving on the Boards of the public and private companies over which Clearwater has significant influence or control. Stan serves on the Board of Directors of High Liner Foods Incorporated, Columbus International Inc. and FP Resources Limited. He is Chairman of Ocean Nutrition (Canada) Limited. Stan is active in a number of community not-for-profit organizations, currently serving as a Governor and Chairman of the Investment Committee of Dalhousie University.
Tom Traves is President and Vice-Chancellor, Dalhousie University. Tom holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Manitoba and Masters and Doctorate degrees from York University. Tom was formerly Vice-President (Academic) at University of New Brunswick. Tom has been involved with a number of boards of directors and is currently a member of the Life Sciences Development Association, Innovacorp and the Greater Halifax Partnership.
Harold Giles is a former senior executive with General Electric and Bell with extensive experience in global businesses in Operations General Management, Business Restructuring and Human Resources, in Canada, the United States and Europe. Since retiring he has provided operations and leadership consulting to Corporations in Canada and in Europe and to not-for-profit organizations.
Larry Hood, Chair of the Audit Committee, is a retired assurance partner, having spent his enitre 35 year career, with the accounting firm KPMG. Larry holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary's University and is a Chartered Accountant. During Larry's career he served many clients, gaining extensive experience in the fishing industry. Larry has been involved with many community projects and currently sits on the Board of Govenors of Saint Mary's University.
